The puzzles: A+. The controls: F-. Shift 2 is so, so close to being an incredible app. With 120 different levels, there's enough content to keep you entertained for a solid chunk of time. But we've got some major issues with the controls.
Shift involves rotating the game world in order to solve puzzles. It's a cool mechanic...and seemingly a perfect fit for the iPhone and iPad. Rotating your device should rotate the game world, right? Not the case. You flip the environment by tapping a 'Shift' button, at which point the image rotates automatically. Why? On top of that, there's no way to jump while running. The only way to leap across obstacles is to jump and then immediately hold the arrow button. Double why?
Once you get past these limitations (and believe us, you will) Shift 2 will grow on you. The puzzles and humor remind us of Portal. And with a supposed play through time of 4 hours, Shift has even more mileage to offer than Portal 1.
