It's not Doodle Jump. It's not Angry Birds. Line Birds combines two of the App Store's biggest cliches: bird characters and faux hand-drawn graphics. Add in the fiercely overused touch control scheme (tap to fly up, release to drop down) and you'd expect to end up with a throwaway app.
But even though we've seen all of the parts a million times over, the whole is its own game. Surprisingly, Line Birds goes in our 'keeper' pile. The look is slightly different. The control response is slightly faster. While the app isn't going to revolutionize iOS gaming, it's hard to deny it's simplicity, cuteness, and addictiveness.
